Tutor Categories: Understanding Your Role

To simplify your identification within our community, tutors are grouped into three main categories:

  • Part-Time Tutors: Suitable for A-level graduates, diploma students/graduates, university undergraduates, and working professionals who tutor part-time.

  • Full-Time Tutors: Geared towards tutors for whom tutoring is the primary source of income, with substantial teaching experience in both 1-to-1 and group settings.

  • Ex/Current School Teachers: Reserved for full-time ex/current school teachers from MOE or private and international schools.

Note: If you’re a full-time tutor with less than 4 years of experience, begin by selecting ‘Part-time tutor,’ with the option to update your profile later.

Document Upload: Enhancing Credibility

Tuition2u places a high value on the credibility, integrity, and quality of our tutor database. Boost your chances of securing tuition assignments by uploading your certificates. This not only supports the information on your profile but also increases your visibility through our System.

Registration for Foreign Tutors: Important Considerations

Foreign tutors interested in joining our platform should verify whether freelance work is permitted by contacting the relevant authorities, such as the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS). If granted permission, you are welcome to apply here.

Lessons

Conducting Lessons: Your Preferred Approach

You have the flexibility to conduct lessons in your preferred way, tailored to the student’s needs.

Materials Purchase: Do I Need to Buy Study Materials?

The purchase of study materials, like revision books, is at your discretion. Consult with the tutee before making any purchases to determine if they already possess similar materials.

Minimum Commitment: What's Expected?

Tutors are expected to commit to at least 4 weeks of tuition. Backing out without a valid reason before completing this period results in the tutor not receiving any tuition fees. Short-term assignments have specific commitments.

Note: Tuition2u expects tutors to uphold integrity and responsibility, and irresponsible behavior may lead to blacklisting.

Client Postponement/Cancelation: What Happens?

Clients can postpone or cancel lessons, but they must pay for all conducted lessons. Timely notification of postponements or cancellations is required. If not informed in time, tutors may claim up to 50% of the lesson fees as compensation.

Tutor Postponement/Cancelation: Your Responsibilities

Postponements:
– For tuition conducted for less than 4 weeks, tutors must commit to assigned details.
– After 4 weeks, tutors can liaise with clients for changes and postponements.

Cancellations:
– For lessons conducted for less than 4 weeks, tutors cannot back out without a valid excuse.
– For lessons conducted for more than 4 weeks, tutors can cancel, and clients pay for all lessons conducted directly to the tutor after agency commission.

Getting Assignments

How do I secure tuition assignments?

Tuition2u receives a multitude of new assignments daily and broadcasts them on our Tuition2u Assignments platform via WhatsApp to suitable tutors who have registered with us.

After Applying: What's the Next Step?

Following your application for an assignment, patiently wait for up to 72 hours. Typically, if the parent is considering you, we will get in touch within this timeframe. Meanwhile, it’s advisable to continue applying for other tuition jobs with different timeslots.

Lack of Responses: Why Am I Not Getting Assignments?

If you’re not receiving responses after applying for assignments, consider the following:
1. Applying for unavailable assignments.
2. Providing incomplete or unsatisfactory applications.
3. Applying for unsuitable assignments based on specific requirements.
4. Late responses – applying earlier increases your chances of selection.

Payment

Handling Changes in Lesson Frequency or Duration

Q: Can I add subjects or students (e.g., siblings)?

A: If requested to teach additional subjects or other siblings, promptly notify the agency. Commission applies to extra subjects/lessons/students, with a 6-month time limit from the original arrangement.

Understanding the Agency Fee

Generally, the agency collects the equivalent of the first 2 weeks of active lessons (not the calendar month) as agent commission. Commission percentages for short-term assignments or special cases may vary, and these details will be clearly communicated before your acceptance.

Clarifying the Payment Process for the Agency Fee

The agency fee is a portion of the lesson fees paid by the client directly to Tuition2u. There’s no need for tutors to make payments during assignments. The commission becomes due after completing a specific number of lessons, as specified in the confirmation invoice. Subsequent lesson fees are paid directly to the tutor.

Payment Details for Tutors

Tutors won’t receive payment for the first 2 weeks, as these constitute commission fees charged by Tuition2u. After the agency commission is collected, subsequent payments are made directly by the client to the tutor. No advance payments are issued.

Addressing Termination Within the First Month

If a tutor discontinues an assignment without a valid reason before completing 4 weeks of lessons, they won’t be entitled to tuition fees. Otherwise, fees are evenly divided between the agency and the tutor. It’s crucial to inform Tuition2u of any long-term changes in lesson frequency or duration to avoid potential blacklisting.

Calculating Agency Fees for Short-Term Assignments

For short-term assignments (usually less than 8 weeks), the agency generally collects 25% of the total tuition fee. The exact percentage may vary, but to safeguard tutors’ welfare, the commission will not exceed 25% of total earnings.
