Published rates are guidance, not fixed quotations. A tutor’s proposed fee may vary by student level, subject, tutor category, lesson format, location, schedule and current availability. Before confirming lessons, compare the tutor’s relevant experience and agree on the hourly rate, lesson duration, frequency, payment timing and cancellation expectations.
Use the table below to compare indicative hourly ranges for part-time tutors, full-time tutors and current or former MOE teachers. Part-time tutors are often the lower-cost option; full-time tutors may offer broader scheduling and regular teaching practice; school teachers may quote more where their curriculum experience is relevant. Category alone does not determine suitability.

Set a workable budget, then compare candidates on syllabus familiarity, teaching approach, reliability, availability and communication. Ask what a normal lesson will include and how progress will be reviewed. A higher rate does not guarantee a better match, while the lowest quotation may offer poor value if the tutor cannot address the student’s needs.
